Time to point out the obvious; it’s been a two week bye period since the last homesteading blog post from R&R Ranch. It’s been a very odd few weeks to find out some of my new family has tested positive for COVID-19, quarantine has been extended through the end of the month (and potentially to infinity and beyond), and the rest of the school year has been cancelled. It’s an uncertain time for a lot of people and something I probably should’ve taken the time to discuss. I have to admit, it’s been hard for me to find the right words, or any words. Maybe it’s just hard to find positive words.
So, that’s all I’m going to say about the scaries here. The scaries get enough air time everywhere else.
What I’d like to focus on is the silver linings of quarantine. Silver linings are the greatest aren’t they?! I hope that while you are reading this, you have your loved ones close by and you can smile at them even after some thirty-odd days locked in together. If the aforementioned loved ones are driving you nuts, I hope that you can learn kindness. Maybe foster a shelter pet? Those are pretty lovable and they don’t talk back.
Personally, I don’t mind having the quarantine extended. I like it here! Pretty sure my husband still likes me back too! Win, win.
Since we’ve had some unexpected time on our hands, we get the opportunity to try out some new things. We brought home four new baby doelings to add to the trip (that’s a goat herd for y’all non-farmers.) We restored some old patio-furniture just in case we ever get to entertain guests again (hosting is our fave.) We’ve even done some unsuccessful sting operations for our new predator problem (potentially due to a lack of roadkill as a weird result of quarantine. Boozey vlog on that later.)
Since it’s a stressful time and so many of us have been sitting inside, we’d like to bring some smiles while sharing out our farm, and thank God for the internet. A farm in Silicon Valley (woo California!) is offering remote workers around the world a way to break up the monotony of endless Zoom calls and video chats by including farm animals!
Hey cool cats and kittens, we can do that too! For the next week, you can request a free cameo appearance in your video chat from R&R Ranch’s goats, chickens, (or help me talk my better half into rescuing a donkey, mini horse, or alpaca!) If you’re interested in booking an animal, you can do so by filling out this form. Our new littles need some socializing (from a safe distance of course) and all that we ask is that you tag R&R Ranch with your honest review on the social interwebz to help us get the word out. Since the in-person events are on pause, we LOVE this positive way to bring people together virtually.
Did I mention the littles have jammies?!
Scheduling is easy! All you have to do is book the date and time; they are stress-free, unique and make a sweet surprise. Plus, they are kid-friendly! Change things up and chat with a baby goat this week- our virtual practice for making weddings, birthdays, or bachelorette parties in Nashville memorable in the future. We are beyond excited to roll out this program. Animals have amazingly therapeutic effects, and seriously, what better time for that?!
All it takes it a little creativity to spot kindness in the uncertainty. Now, I’ve heard creativity is something you have to practice to get more of. For example, our UPS driver is busier than we’ve ever seen her, but now she throws the doggos treats when she drops off a package. She’s busier, but now shares snackos.. wild. So, if you think of a way R&R Ranch can brighten someone’s quarantine, please let us know. We’ve had a request for a baby goat calendar, and although 2020 planners have been the most unused purchase of this year, baby goats modeling the months of 2021 is in the works with high hopes!
Now, please excuse me while we go trim up some goat hooves.
